The Payne County Democrats will host an evening of food, music and politics in Heritage Hall at the Payne County Expo Center on October 4, 2013, to allow voters to meet Democratic candidates for office in 2014. Purchase your tickets here or come by our headquarters which will be open from noon until 2 p.m. and between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, for the next two weeks.

“From looking around Oklahoma, you would think Democrats will not have any candidates on the ballot next year,” said Dennis Whiteman, chair of the Payne County Democrats. “We intend to come out swinging with a full slate of qualified people who believe things like healthcare, education and social security are important to our communities, state and country.”

Among the candidates who will be at the event are Cory Williams, incumbent Oklahoma Representative for District 34, Matt Silverstein, who is running against incumbent U.S. Sen. James Inhofe, Cathy Cummings, candidate for Lieutenant Governor, and Mike Workman, candidate for Labor Commissioner.

In addition, Donna Anderson, superintendent of Bennington Public Schools, Dr. John Cox, superintendent of the Peggs School System, Dr. Jack Herron of Norman, former Oklahoma Assistant Superintendent of Finance, and Dr. Ivan Holmes of Oklahoma City, a former classroom teacher and college educator who holds a doctorate in education from the University of Tulsa, are candidates for Oklahoma Superintendent of Public Instruction.

“These candidates each have 10 times more experience in education than Janet Barresi who was a dentist before before she began mooching off the taxpayers in 2011,” Whiteman said. “This is going to be the most contested race in 2014 and a chance for us to prove that kids come first.”

Jack Hesser’s famous chili will be prepared by the World War II veteran with help from Democrats all over the county who are bringing some special desserts and extras. Local musicians will be providing entertainment when the doors open at 6 p.m. and a silent auction.

Tickets are available for a $5 donation for individuals and a $10 donation for couples and families. They can be purchased in advance at Payne County Democrats headquarters at 302 N. Main in Stillwater and at paynecountydemocrats.org.

“We wanted to make this affordable for families to come find out what we’re all about, enjoy some great food and meet some of our candidates for office next year,” Whiteman said.
