Planning for the End

J. Michael Entz, an estate planning attorney, will talk about end of life issues at the Payne County Democrats monthly meeting on July 11th at 7 p.m. at its headquarters, 302 N. Main in Stillwater, OK.

We don’t like to think about it, but none of us are going to get out of this world alive. Since the end of life starts the day we are born, it’s important to begin planning for it as soon as we are competent to do so. This meeting will give you an opportunity to learn the basics of what you should do for your family now to keep the government and others from making decisions for you later.

The American Taxpayer Relief Act, passed by Congress and signed into law in January, set the federal tax exemption on estates at $5.25 million — $10.5 million for a couple. If we had a meeting for just those people in our organization with those kinds of assets, we’d there would likely be an empty room. But laws change all the time and it’s important to keep up with them.
