This week, we'll begin changing the minds of our fellow citizens about our viability as a political party and an organization. Things have not gone all that well in recent elections, but we have to start somewhere and our county fair is as good a place as any. We've been working a couple of weeks now to put together position papers and gather materials that we can distribute at this annual event. The Republicans would have us believe otherwise, but our neighbors care just as much as we do about seniors, education, health care, the environment and more. It's simply a matter of turning them around toward our positions and letting them know that we are the party of inclusion, that WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER.
Here are some of the materials that we’re going to be distributing at the Payne County Fair. If you are volunteering, please familiarize yourself with them so that you can answer questions informatively.
- Resolutions — summary of the resolutions passed by Payne County Democrats at the County Convention on April 6, 2013
- Health Care — highlights of the Affordable Care Act that will be into effect on October 1, 2013 and its impact on Oklahomans
We have a great slate of volunteers who have already signed up for be in our booth answering questions to prospective voters, but have some holes in the schedule. We especially need people to sign up Friday and Saturday in the afternoon and evening. We will also need some help setting up Tuesday night and tearing down Saturday night.
Below is the schedule so far. If you see an opening you can fill, send us a message with the date and time you can volunteer and we'll add you to the schedule.
